I think 2020 really kicked a lot of people to the curb. I know, for me, it could have been worse. But things really went downhill in the last quarter; I lost two cats, and the holidays almost killed me at work (I work as a retail shipping associate). Since all that happened at the end of the year, it naturally followed me into the next year, so I’m still struggling to recover. And my first step is a huge thing that I wasn’t really planning to do for at least a couple months, but stuff happened and I’m quitting the job I’ve had for over two years.
Honestly, I didn’t really want to quit. I was kind of the graphic designer for this little print-and-ship store, and I loved designing business cards and wedding invitations. But those jobs were few and far between, and they couldn’t even make up for the amount of item returns from rude customers my coworkers and I have had to handle over the last six months. Not to mention the number of people who just would not accept our “no mask, no service” policy, and would fight us on it even when there was a line of twenty people behind them. There’s only so many times you can take being called “mask nazi” or “silly putty for brains” before you just want to walk out back and cry for the rest of your shift.
I know I’m not gonna regret it though. I want to get back to art, and I want to pursue graphic design more. I want to establish my internet presence a little more than just screaming into the void on Twitter. I want to write, too. I have so many story ideas that I just have not had a chance to work on. I’d really like to eventually write a book, even just a really short one. And I have the privilege to do so, too, since I have a supportive family and the resources to follow my dreams as long as I put in the work.
So here’s to 2021. I’m starting a little late, but I’m ready this time.
Obviously, this blog is one thing that I’m gonna try and keep up with. Aside from that, however, I’m going to transfer most of my gallery from DeviantArt to other places, probably Ko-fi or here. I’ve fallen off of DA quite a bit, and the community rubs me the wrong way, so I’d like to distance myself from it. I do like Ko-fi’s platform a lot, especially in the way they offer digital product stores and commissions services, but I’m not a huge fan of their lack of a gallery. Besides, I’d like to try and consolidate some of my socials.
Another thing I’d like to get into is streaming. Not just art, but perhaps games as well. I’m completely addicted to Genshin Impact, so I’d like to stream some of that and maybe make some co-op friends in the process. Of course, I want to do some art streaming as well, and maybe even some other chatting streams and such. I don’t have a lot of plans yet, I need to get at least a microphone, so it may be a bit before I can start that.
I think that’s a good run down of my near future plans. I’ll keep this updated the best I can. Thanks for reading! C:
